About Artwork
Shona McAndrew is known for paintings and sculptures that depict women in their personal spaces. Drawing from a variety of historical and personal references, the artist renders fleeting yet intimate moments of vulnerability in the daily lives of women seldom portrayed in art history.
“The print is an opportunity to shift the focus of an earlier painting, to tell a slightly different story. Jay, the model, is a dear friend of mine, a talented and sensitive young woman who has never ceased to amaze me with her bravery. In the painting she is so very naked and vulnerable, yet confidently facing the new day ahead of her. The print allowed me to highlight the sunburns on her body, drawing attention to a sun kissed day in her recent past.” – Shona McAndrew
