Sub Swara hails from Brooklyn, New York and plays music with a genre-bending bass weight that parallels the depth and diversity of its hometown. Consisting of Dhruva, Dave (Sharmaji) and Haj, with vocalist Juakali, Sub Swara’s music centers on a wide array of influences, from dub to dancehall to hip hop to punk rock to funk and global sounds. Meticulously crafted for both the dancefloor massive and the headspace, Sub Swara’s music unites tribes by bridging gaps across all lines. The crew blends both electronic production and live instrumentation into its recordings and performances, creating an intense, human touch in its modern, electronic sound.
Sub Swara’s debut album, Coup d’Yah (Low Motion Records), dropped in June of 2008 to wide critical and popular appeal (See the Press page for more), and was followed by multiple volumes of remixes by such next level producers as Ghislain Poirier, Fort Knox 5, Mochipet, Eskmo, Heyoka, iLL.Gates, DJ C, Kush Arora, David Starfire and more.
Never ones to rest on their laurels, in the year after Coup released Sub Swara produced 10 MORE remixes for other artists like Fort Knox 5, Mochipet, David Starfire, iLL.Gates, Bassnectar, State of Bengal and Shiva Soundsystem and toured relentlessly playing at such marquee events as the Coachella Musical Festival, All Points West, Decibel Music Festival, Shambhala Music Festival, Clandestino Music Festival, Emerg-N-See, Deep Space NYC, Dub War NYC, and sharing the stage with artists like Amon Tobin, Diplo, Skream, Benga, The Glitch Mob, Bassnectar, Vex’d, Mary Anne Hobbs, Ghislain Poirier, The Bug, Francois K, Soundtribe Sector 9, EOTO and many more.
