Originally trained as a visual artist, Brian Eno has moved on to become a prolific contributor to avant-garde music. He began improvising lyrics in an early band called Maxwell Demon, demonstrating an intentional randomness that soon became a trademark. He was also a founding member of the influential glam band, Roxy Music. Eno's solo career was one of the most important musical voices of the 1970s. Early albums such as "Here Come the Warm Jets" (1974) pioneered synthesizer music and presaged the birth of New Wave. He is known for his collaborations with other artists -- notably with luminaries David Bowie, David Byrne, and John Cale. He has also been a major force as a record producer, shepherding many bands to greatness, including U2, The Talking Heads, and Devo. Ironically, Eno's most widely heard composition is the Microsoft Windows start-up jingle. [show less]
