Doug Varone graduated with a BFA in dance from SUNY Purchase. He is the recipient of two Bessie Awards for his choreography of Boats Leaving (2006). His unique way of creating dances has included such techniques as using images from newspaper clippings to inspire movement. Other works include Rise (1993), Lux (2006), and the site-specific Neither (2000) at the lower East Side Tenement Museum. Doug Varone and Dancers is the resident company at the 92nd Street Y. The company has performed in over 100 cities in 45 US states and in Europe, Asia, Canada and South America. In NYC, Varone's choreography has been shown at BAM, The Joyce Theater, Lincoln Center. His work has been support by the National Endowment for the arts. [show less]
