Vicki Bennett has been sampling under the name People Like Us since 1991. To date, she's had a prolific career: 20 albums, a number of museum exhibitions, radio shows on the BBC and on New York's free form station WFMU. In an era in which artists like Danger Mouse and Girl Talk have given sampling an unquestionably contemporary, hip-hop inspired vibe, Bennett's sound is unusual. She trolls show tunes and WWII era hits as easily as she trolls dance music, creating acerbic hybrids in which vintage meets techno. Busy as ever, Bennett recently aired a remix of the inaugural poem on youtube and she's currently promoting her new album, In The Waking, a collaboration with multi-talented artist Ergo Phizmiz.
