"Sometimes books act like events, like edifices, or like they can tell it like it is. Telling it like it is is always also a lie, but it feels total," said poet Ariana Reines, describing her reasons for writing her first book 'The Cow.' "People will always thank you for your extremity." Ariana Reines won the Alberta Prize for The Cow in 2006. Her second book, Couer de Lion, was published in 2007 by Mal-O-Mar, a small press she co-founded. Her first play, Telephone, premiered at the Cherry Lane Theater in New York in February, 2009. Reines' naked and immediate writing seems especially relevant in the era of facebook and gmail, but it is still seductively drenched in the elitism of literary history. [show less]
