perceptual / theme
Experience comes to us through a variety of channels. Sometimes, it touches us, a physical force laid upon our bodies. Other times, we understand something, put it in its place, know how and why it functions. But sometimes it happens through the elusive faculty of perception. Perception is not purely cognitive, nor is it solely physical -- a product of the senses. Rather, it is a spectral faculty hovering between raw material experience and cognitive experience. It is a sieve, the filter of knowledge, understanding, and sensation.
Themes represent basic categories of thought, emotion, or value. While our assignment of themes may at times seem arbitrary or whimsical, they serve to link together artists and movements along non- hierarchial pathways. Follow the themes to look for new disciplines that share qualities with those you already like, or to open up new worlds of Art and Culture.
